Growing up during a time of immense social change in Brazil - with the abolishment of slavery in 1888, this was a time of social revolution and far-reaching modernizations - Villa-Lobos went on to become one of South America's best-known composers of all time. This fourth episode dives deeper into the composer's "Bachianas brasileiras", particularly the "Ária (Cantilena)" from Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5, which is one of Villa-Lobos's most renowned pieces.
